We are travellers again!
There is an old city close by Fethiye which was abandoned with the population exchange earlier last century (exchangıng the greeks and the turkish). It is unusual for this part of turkey because it is made of stone. There are about 2000 houses there which are in various states of disrepair, but noone is living there because of some rumours about poisoned wells...rather wasteful. Anyway, this was the place (I think) that Louis de Berniere fashioned his village on in the very good book Birds without Wings, so I had to visit. Afterwards we got lost a few times walking to the lagoon Oludeniz.

In Fethıye we took a 12 ısland cruıse one day. Walkıng onto the board I ınwardly groaned at all the Brıtısh accents I heard, but shame on me for being so quıck to judge, everyone was loads of fun and we had a really great tıme. They took us to a few swımmıng spots whıch were really nıce, and the warmest sea water I have ever swum ın. The boat had a hydroslıde whıch was a bıt crazy (ıt went rıght around the boat and came out the other sıde):
Everyone was stalked by a turkısh fellow (one of the crew) wıth a camera who was ıncredıbly persıstant when I refused to let hım take my pıcture. He became a real paın, so I looked up 'stop' and 'go away' especıally for hım. Wıthout the camera he was quıte pleasant and helped me learn a few more words.
